WebJul 20, 2014 · I did an allparts strat neck about a year ago. Used a mix of amber and brown dye on the neck before the tru oil to give it a vintage look. It looks the same now as it did when fresh. I love the look and feel of tru oil. Be careful when using it on rosewood or darker woods. You don't use it on rosewood finger board thought, cause you don't really want to seal up rose wood. It can be used for sealing up maple finger board or necks after sanding down the original lacquer. I would first give a good wipe down with acetone. If you use oil, you could use pure Tung oil, or China Wood oil, and follow the directions on the label.
