WebAug 19, 2011 · The "knock sensor" signal normally reads zero. But when you take off (engage the clutch) or shift, the signal goes negative. When you shift it goes waay negative. Seems like that means it is a vibration/shock sensor. I'm not sure what zone the knock sensor signal needs to be in to identify engine knock. The ignition control module (ICM) upon receiving this signal, starts switching the ignition coil's Ground ON and OFF.
